Jason, I looked for a brightness spec for the Motorola Photon and couldn’t find it. I can say that when I crank it all the way up, it is brighter than an HTC EVO 3D that is also pushed to full brightness.
As for the battery, I don’t do any sort of formal battery testing. That said, the battery in the Photon seems to drain pretty quickly. In my experience, the Photon has to be charged at least once a day.
Lorene, I don’t think it will affect the activation process. However, if you do have a problem with activation, just take the old phone and new phone to a Sprint store. They should be able to fix you right up.
Fred, I have the Motorola Photon on my desk and it is less bulky than some other phones. At the moment, the Photon may be the lightest weight 4G phone with a 4.3-inch 540 x 960 display. Older BlackBerrys used to be MUCH bulkier.
gwong, I know it’s confusing and frustrating, but the information you got from the phone agent is correct. The carriers do not allow Wirefly to modify your plan until you are eligible, and you won’t be eligible until Dec. 2011. If you want a new phone today, you can pay full price for a phone at Wirefly but you will have to take it to a Verizon store to upgrade your plan. Wirefly will not be able to upgrade your plan until Dec. 2011. Again, this is a constraint that is imposed upon Wirefly by the carriers — we would love to be able to do it but we are not permitted. Even if you lose your phone.
I hope that helps you understand why you got the information that you received from the phone agent.
Maniah, I think it depends on the circumstances. Wirefly checks carefully to make sure you have enough credit to cover the first 181 days, and your credit card may be automatically charged during that time. However, we all know circumstances can change and service may be cut off if payment is not made.
Nini, battery use is a major concern for cell phone owners, so we feel your pain. The usual things you can do to preserve battery power are:
1. Turn off the GPS system in the cell phone.
2. Set your Facebook and e-mail updates to longer times. If you now update your Facebook and e-mail every hour, set it to every 3 hours or 6 hours.
3. Set weather updates to every 3 hours.
Automatic updates for Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, weather and others use a little power whenever they make and update. Delaying them will make your battery last longer. There may even be a setting that tells the phone not to update things overnight — that way, you save power and get all your updates in the morning.
Yes, your interpretation is correct. If you get a phone through Wirefly, you can’t make any changes to your agreement for 181 days. Of course, Wirefly has a 30-day satisfaction guaranty, so you can exchange/return your phone within 30 days with no penalty. Once you are past 30 days, you can’t change the contract until you reach 181 days, wth the exception of adding more lines.
sgomez, it will work with any Android phone. The “DROID” series on Verizon is just a brand of Android phones and they run the same version of Android as any other Android phone. The “DROID” name for Verizon is like “EVO” for Sprint and “myTouch” for T-Mobile.
Shayna, yes the BlackBerry Bold 9780 (in any color) will come from Wirefly in exactly the same package that you’d get from T-Mobile. It will come with all standard accessories, including the battery. And yes, it will work with your current SIM card.
Shayna, all the phones Wirefly sells are brand new, first-quality merchandise. They are exactly like the phones you buy in a Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon store, and they have the same warranty and accessories.
Al, you should be able to use the browser in the HTC Arrive to view Google Maps and Google Earth. Other than that, I’m not really up-to-date on Windows Phone 7 devices and I don’t know about the Adobe Flash update. I will ask around and see if there’s some good information.
Joale, both those are really good phones. It all comes down to whether or not you want a physical keyboard, which the Samsung Epic has. If you don’t need/want a keyboard, the HTC EVO 4G is a fun phone. If you can afford it, you should also take a look at the HTC EVO 3D, which is an outstanding phone.
Andy, you should contact MDPA and see if the problem you have is covered. I don’t know how old your phone is, but in some cases you can get a new phone for free by extending your current contract. Go to Wirefly.com and click on the Upgrade Eligibility Checker to see if you qualify.
Minnie, please give me an order number and I will look into it. I’m off over the weekend and will pick this up on Monday. If that is too long to wait, you can call 86-852-3216 and that person will help you.
Donald, we really appreciate you thinking of Wirefly again for a cell phone purchase. Unfortunately, I have no information on when Wirefly may again sell AT&T phones, but it clearly won’t be in the next few weeks. If you need an AT&T phone now, you should plan on getting it elsewhere.
I wish I had better news for you, but please think of Wirefly if you need a phone from a different carrier. In fact, we can get you a great price on an excellent phone if you’re willing to switch carriers now. Sprint and T-Mobile just released some outstanding Android phones, and Verizon is ready to follow suit in August. Also, new BlackBerry phones are coming in the next couple of weeks, and they look great. I’m really interested in the Monaco, which has a completely touch-screen interface.
I believe that Android phones have a screen capture function similar to the iPhone. I don’t know it off the top of my head, but I recall it being demonstrated. That would include the Motorola DROID Bionic… whenever it is released.
Bruce, the clock comes up because the BlackBerry is locked. You need to unlock it the normal way when your BlackBerry is sitting for a while — enter your password to unlock. Then you will get a prompt asking if you want to put the BlackBerry in mass storage mode. Select “yes,” then you will be able to see files in the BlackBerry using your Mac.
Chris, it sounds like you have a good idea of what you need. However, you should know that Wirefly does not sell phones for AT&T. If you’re looking for a phone for Sprint, Verizon or T-Mobile, we’d be honored if you shopped with us.
