How To Transfer Files With Bluetooth Using a BlackBerry

How to setup Bluetooth connectivity on your PC

Usually there is a keyboard shortcut to activate Bluetooth, if you are prompted turn Bluetooth radio on. If your computer does not have a shortcut available go to Control Panel and select Bluetooth Devices.

  • Once you activate Bluetooth a new icon will appear in the taskbar
  • Right click on the Bluetooth icon and click on “Open Bluetooth Settings”
  • Be sure to check “Turn discovery on”
  • In the connections section on the options tab make sure “Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer” is checked

How to prepare your BlackBerry for Bluetooth connectivity

  • Go to the applications menu
  • Click on “Set Up Bluetooth”
  • You should see a list of devices relative to your location that are Bluetooth enabled; select the name of your computer from the list
  • You should be prompted for a password, enter any 4-digit code that you will remember
  • On your PC you should be prompted to confirm the connection by entering the same 4-digit password that you set on your BlackBerry

Now that you’ve established a connection between your PC and your mobile device you will need to know how to transfer files.

How to transfer files from your BlackBerry to your PC over Bluetooth

  • Right click on the Bluetooth logo in the taskbar of your PC
  • Select “Receive a file”
  • On the BlackBerry applications menu select “Media”
  • Browse to the type of media you would like to send
  • Open the file and click using the trackball
  • Click on “Send using Bluetooth”
  • Select the name of your computer’s Bluetooth connection
  • Create a passkey just to be safe, set it to something simple and short. This step is mainly used so you don’t accidentally send your files to the wrong device
  • You should see a prompt on your computer that says a Bluetooth device is trying to send a file
  • Enter the passkey you set on your BlackBerry: http://screencast.com/t/zNofGJXCkVm
  • Specify the location in which you would like your files to be transferred

How to transfer files from your PC to your BlackBerry over Bluetooth

  • Right click on the Bluetooth logo in the taskbar of your PC
  • Select “Send a file”
  • Browse to your discoverable BlackBerry
  • Select “Use a passkey” just to be safe, set it to something simple and short. This step is mainly used so you don’t accidentally send your files to the wrong device
  • Browse to the file you would like to send
  • You will be prompted to enter the passkey on your BlackBerry to accept the transfer
