How To Convert Video From Your BlackBerry To An Optimized .AVI File

Some BlackBerry devices capture video at 3GP/MP4 (optimized format supported by most BlackBerry devices) the problem lies when the user tries to copy that format to a Windows based PC that does not have the extra 3GP video code required by Windows Media Player to play the file.

This guide will show you how to copy and convert video captured from your BlackBerry to a standard .avi format that is widely supported by most video players.

One of the most popular BlackBerry video converters is the BlackBerry Video Converter by Seabyrd Technologies. Download it here.

Before starting you need to enable mass storage mode on your BlackBerry device—this allows you to transfer pics, music, and movies without having to use the desktop manager. If you would like to use BlackBerry supported software that does the same thing install BlackBerry Desktop Software. Additionally, you can go straight to the source by visiting BlackBerry 101 to find out how to do many standard and advanced tasks such as enabling mass storage mode with your specific BlackBerry device. In this guide we are going to focus on how to pull and put video on your BlackBerry without the use of official BlackBerry software.

Once your BlackBerry device is detected on your Windows-based PC do the following:

  1. Install BlackBerry Video Converter by Seabyrd Technologies.
  2. Create a folder that contains the files that you would like to convert to an optimized format – this would likely be an .MP4 or .3GP file.
  3. Launch BlackBerry Video Converter
  4. Go to the Input tab
  5. Browse to the video file from your BlackBerry that you would like to convert.
  6. Specify resolution settings on the video tab.
  7. Go to the save and encode tab and click “save to” and browse to the location where you would like the optimized/converted video to be created.
  8. Click “convert my video” to have the optimized/converted format placed in the location you specified.
