Wirefly Learn » Resources » Cell Phone Comparisons

July 15th, 2010

Key Differences

  • User interface: At release, both the Motorola DROID X and the DROID Incredible are running Android version 2.1. The Motorola DROID X has a slightly modified version of the standard Google Experience that adds a few nice enhancements, including a number of widgets such as a social networking and visual bookmarking widget. The HTC DROID Incredible has HTC’s custom user interface called Sense. HTC’s Sense interface offers a number of advanced customization options for the Incredible, including custom widgets, and the ability to change the layout and icons on the home screens depending on what the user is doing. Of course, the choice between the two interfaces all comes down to personal preference, and many users will likely prefer one interface over the other.
  • Display: The DROID X (4.3″ TFT display, 480×854 pixels) has a bigger, slightly higher resolution display than the DROID Incredible (3.7″ display, 480×800 pixels). The DROID X has among the biggest displays available on any smartphone, while the DROID Incredible’s display is fairly standard among high-end smartphones.
  • Design: Because of its impressively large display, the DROID X is a fairly sizable device.  Although the DROID X is still fairly pocketable, the DROID Incredible is a significantly more compact device that will fit easily in any pocket or purse.
  • Storage space: Right out of the box, the DROID X offers a total of 24GB of storage space (8GB on-board, pre-installed 16GB microSD card), while the DROID Incredible offers 8G.  Of course, the DROID Incredible has expandable memory support by way of a microSD card.
  • Camera: Both devices are equipped with great 8-megapixel cameras with autofocus and bright dual LED flashes.  The DROID X, however, is capable of recording HD video (720P), while the Incredible records great non-HD video.  At the time of this comparison, however, it has been rumored that the Incredible may be getting 720P video recording in the near future by way of an over-the-air update.
  • Mobile hotspot: The DROID X is equipped with mobile hotspot capabilities, allowing up to 5 WiFi-enabled devices to share the device’s 3G internet connection.  At the time of this comparison, the Incredible does not have mobile hotspot capabilities, although it is rumored that an over-the-air update may also bring mobile hotspot to the Incredible.
