Cell Phone Comparisons
HTC Hero vs. Palm Pre

Wirefly Learn » Resources » Cell Phone Comparisons

February 12th, 2010

Key Differences

  • Operating System: The HTC Hero has HTC’s custom user interface called Sense built on top of Google’s Android operating system. HTC’s Sense interface offers a number of advanced customization options for the Hero, including additional home screens, custom widgets, and the ability to change the layout and icons on the home screens depending on what the user is doing. The Pre is equipped with Palm’s proprietary operating system called webOS (same OS as the Palm Pixi), which provides a sleek interface centered around ‘cards’ that is great for multitasking.  For a closer look at each phone’s user interface, click “Watch” in the Video Overview row.
  • Design: The HTC Hero has a traditional, candy bar smartphone factor, and is equipped with a touchscreen, trackball, and virtual QWERTY keyboard.  The Palm Pre has a unique form factor, adopting a banana-like shape when slid upwards to reveal a physical QWERTY keyboard.
  • Camera: The HTC Hero is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera/camcorder without flash, while the Palm Pre has a 3-megapixel camera with flash.  The additional 2-megapixels on the Hero will allow it capture higher resolution photos. The Hero is also capable of capturing video, while the Pre will be unable to capture video until an upcoming new software version is released for the Pre.
  • Storage Space: Right out of the box, the HTC Hero has a 2GB microSD card pre-installed (upgradeable to 32GB) for on-board storage of music, video and more. The Palm Pre comes with 8GB of storage space already built-in, but is not upgradeable.
