[At right: BACKFLIP Hands-on Video]

As expected, Motorola has officially unveiled the uniquely constructed BACKFLIP that we’ve seen strike a pose in any number of blurry photo shoots. Well, now we have deliciously crisp images and all details on the likely AT&T-bound Android phone (carrier has not yet been confirmed). The BACKFLIP is running Android 2.1 and Motorola’s social networking-oriented MOTOBLUR interface that we first saw on the CLIQ. The phone has a 5-megapixel camera, 3G, WiFi, and full QWERTY keyboard. Where things get interesting, though, is that the keyboard doesn’t slide out but actually flips backwards — you guessed it, hence the name BACKFLIP. When closed, the device looks much like the CLIQ, albeit with a keyboard on the bottom that oddly enough has the camera right along side it. There’s also a track pad on the back that is purportedly for quickly flipping through MOTOBLUR.

  • If you already have a contract with at&t & it isn’t time for an upgrade how can you purchase a phone without getting another 2 yr. contract?
