An army of Sprint customers and no shortage of defectors from the remainder of the Big Four are apparently clamoring to be the very first wireless consumers to join the glorious 4G rEVOlution. It is being widely reported that the HTC EVO 4G for Sprint, America’s first 4G-capable phone, is largely sold out online and in brick and mortar stores from sea to shining sea. Sprint also announced that launch day sales of the EVO 4G shattered expectations and sales records to record the best launch day of any device to grace the network of the nation’s third-largest wireless carrier.
Within 12 hours of launch, Wirefly, the nation’s largest online retailer of cell phones, had exhausted its inventory of HTC EVO 4Gs. Correcting a previous press release that professed even more staggering numbers, Sprint said that launch day sales of the HTC EVO 4G were six times greater than launch day sales of the Samsung Instinct and nearly twice the launch day sales of the Palm Pre.
