Amazon has partnered with AT&T to help make calls via an Amazon Echo.
This isn’t the first time Amazon has done something like this. As a matter of fact, they have made its entire Echo product lineup able to make and receive voice calls (for free). It just so happens that they have partnered with a wireless provider to make this happen.
By making this happen, AT&T customers can now be reached without using their handsets. All they need is to have an Alexa-enabled device so they can start making calls to their family and friends in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
If you are an AT&T customer and you would like to make free calls to these countries, you simply need to activate the expanded NumberSync functionality from your AT&T phone number. Link this number with the official Alexa app’s virtual assistant. You can do this by accessing Settings > Communication > (choose your carrier). After that, you just need to follow the steps so that the linking process can be completed.
When you have successfully linked it, you can ask Alexa to call any of your contacts with a name or phone number. This will also allow you to answer calls without pressing anything. If there is an incoming call, the voice assistant will let you know the name of the caller. And if you decide to pick up the call, simply tell Alexa to “answer”.
The best part is, you don’t need to have your smartphone nearby for this feature to work. Your device can be in another room, out of battery, or switched off. This is truly a neat feature for AT&T customers.
