Casely is once again recalling its Power Pods 5000mAh portable MagSafe wireless phone charger, model E33A, after more reports tied to overheating, swelling, and fires. More than 429,000 units are affected, and owners are being told to stop using the charger right away. The recall matters because power banks are everyday accessories for many phone users, and this one has now been linked to a growing number of dangerous incidents.
As reported by PhoneArena, there were more than 51 reports involving the lithium-ion battery inside the device. While the total number of complaints went down from the earlier recall, the outcomes became much more serious.
One 75-year-old woman in New Jersey suffered second- and third-degree burns after the power bank exploded while she was charging her phone, and she later died from complications. The report also said a 47-year-old woman was burned when the same accessory reportedly caught fire during a flight just two months ago.
People who think they may have one of these chargers should look for model number E33A printed on the back, along with the Casely name engraved on the front. The recalled units were sold through Casely’s website, Amazon, and other online stores between March 2022 and September 2024, with prices ranging from $30 to $70. Owners are also being warned not to throw the charger in the trash. Instead, it should be taken to a household hazardous waste collection site that accepts lithium-ion batteries.
Casely is offering customers a free replacement, and claims can be filed through the company’s recall page. To complete the process, customers need to submit two photos: one showing the serial number on the back confirming it is model E33A, and another showing the word “RECALLED” with the date written in permanent marker across the front of the unit. Customers can also choose a $60 Casely gift card instead, and replacement chargers are expected to ship in about two to four weeks.
