Back in 2018, net neutrality was repealed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). It looks like the same agency is looking to bring back net neutrality rules.
According to PhoneScoop, FCC chairwoman, Jessica Rosenworcel, already started the process of bringing back these rules. With this, broadband internet service will be classified as an “essential” service, much like power, water, and phone service.
Once net neutrality will be reinstated, the FCC will have the authority to ensure internet providers don’t play favorites over their content and services. Legal content won’t be blocked by providers. It will also require providers to offer the same speeds and access for all the content and services.
Since the commission is now led by a majority of Democrats, Rosenworcel is hopeful that net neutrality will be reinstated by the Senate. Unfortunately, it will also take a while before these new rules will be adopted. Still, things are looking up.
