If you like having more control over your phone repairs, Apple has some good news for iPhone 17e owners. The company has added the iPhone 17e to its Self Service Repair Store, which means people can now buy official parts and tools straight from Apple and try certain repairs on their own.
According to PhoneArena, Apple’s update lets iPhone 17e users order genuine replacement parts for repairs such as the back glass and bottom speaker. Apple also provides repair manuals, so anyone willing to take the do-it-yourself route can follow the company’s own instructions instead of booking a Genius Bar visit.
The report says Apple’s self-repair setup for other iPhones usually covers common fixes like batteries, displays, cameras, and speakers. Apple also lets customers rent its repair toolkit if they do not want to buy specialty tools for a one-time job.
There is still some baggage here. PhoneArena points out that Apple spent years pushing back against right-to-repair efforts before launching this program in 2022, and the company was also recently ranked last among major phone makers in a repairability report. So while this move is useful, it also feels like Apple is still catching up rather than leading the way.
Even so, this is a welcome option for iPhone 17e owners. Not everyone is going to open up a $600 phone at the kitchen table, but having the choice matters. For people who live far from an Apple Store or just want to handle a repair themselves, official access to parts and instructions could make ownership a little less stressful.
