This week, Samsung took the wraps off of its latest flagship series, the Galaxy S21.
Under the lineup, the South Korean smartphone manufacturer introduced three smartphone models along with their specs. These three devices contain the latest Qualcomm flagship chip, the Snapdragon 888. They also feature Qualcomm’s newest Gen 2 ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader, which offers 70% larger sensing area and is said to be 50% faster.
Here is a more detailed look into each device.
Some of the Galaxy S21’s specs are very similar to its older brother, the S20. Both devices have the same 4,000mAh battery with fast wireless charging, 64-megapixel main sensor, 8K video capture, Wireless PowerShare, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and IP68 water resistance. This year’s model, however, includes support for Verizon’s mmWave 5G network upon release.
Its other specs include a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED display. It comes with either 128GB or 256GB onboard storage. Colors available include Phantom Violet, Phantom Gray, Phantom Pink, and Phantom White. Samsung will be offering an exclusive Phantom Gold and Phantom Red color options.
The Galaxy S21 is priced at $800 for the 128GB variant and $850 for the 256GB variant.
The Galaxy S21+ comes with a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED display. It runs on a 2.84GHz Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with 8GB of RAM, and a choice between 128GB or 256GB onboard storage.
Camera-wise, there are three cameras on the back: a 12-megapixel main sensor, a 64-megapixel telephoto lens, and another 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. In front, there is a 10-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. Other features include a 4,800mAh battery.
It is priced at $1,000 for the 128GB variant and $1,050 for the 256GB variant. Colors available include Phantom Violet, Phantom Silver, and Phantom Black. Samsung will be offering an exclusive Phantom Gold and Phantom Red color options.
The top model for this lineup is the Galaxy S21 Ultra. This is the first S-series device that comes with an S Pen. It also includes a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen and runs on the same processor as the other devices in this lineup.
Camera-wise, there are four cameras on the back: a whooping 108-megapixel main sensor, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and another 10-megapixel periscope lens. In front, there is a 40-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. This model has a 5,000mAh battery included.
Prices start at $1,200 for the 12GB RAM/128GB storage option, $1,250 for the 12GB RAM/256GB variant, and $1,380 for the 16GB RAM/512GB memory option. Colors available include Phantom Silver and Phantom Black. Samsung will be exclusively offering this device in Phantom Titanium, Phantom Brown, and Phantom Navy color options.
All three phones run Android 11 upon release. They also feature software improvements to their camera, such as Vlogger View, Director’s View, and multi-mic recording. Samsung has also opted not to include ToD depth camera and a microSD card slot for memory expansion on these devices.
They are expected to be available across major US carriers and unlocked from retailers starting January 29th. You can already start pre-ordering one of these devices, which will come with a free Galaxy SmartTag. Those who pre-order the Galaxy S21 Ultra will also receive a $200 credit that can be used on Samsung’s website or Shop Samsung app.
