If you’re one of those wondering what happened to Mobile Now, you’ll be shocked to know that it has been silently shut down last week. This means that you won’t be able to purchase any of its products and services in the 100+ Sprint-branded retail stores nationwide.
As reported by Best Cellular, all retail locations of the Simply Wireless-owned brand have been closed since April 1, 2019. The memo was obtained by NWIDA, which includes a message from Simply Wireless’ Executive Vice President and Co-Founder Henry Ching to his Mobile Now employees. The memo states that “certain contracts between Mobile Now and Sprint” have suddenly ended.
There are also reports from former employees that the reason behind the shutdown was due to a money laundering scheme. Of course, this is an unverified comment with no basis. The shutdown, however, left hundreds of employees jobless. But with the company handing out employee separation memos a day after the changes took effect, it’s only understandable where this frustration would stem from.
As of this writing, the other brands under Simply Wireless appear to be fully operational and unaffected by this shutdown.
So what’s going to happen to its customers?
As a way of helping out customers affected by the shutdown, Best Cellular has offered to waive all activation fees for customers who decide to port in their Sprint number to the service. These customers can continue using their existing Sprint phone and SIM card to make the transition easier.
