For quite some time now, Nothing has been teasing the public about its first ever smartphone. The company has been serious about leaks of any kind. That’s why there hasn’t been a lot of information released about the Nothing phone (1) unless it officially comes from them. And today, the wait finally comes to a close.
The Nothing phone (1) has been unveiled today and it comes with some pretty promising features. For starters, the device is built with a recycled aluminum frame. It has obtained IP53 certification for splash resistance. What’s unique about the phone is the transparent back and the built-in “Glyph interface” LED lights.
There is a 6.55-inch OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. From within, the device runs on a Snapdragon 778G+ chipset with 8GB of RAM/128GB onboard storage, 8GB of RAM/256GB onboard storage, and 12GB of RAM/256GB onboard storage.
Camera-wise, this phone has two 50-megapixel cameras on the back. In front, there is a 16-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. The device also features a 4,500mAh battery with 33W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 5W reverse charging.
Nothing has embedded the fingerprint sensor on the screen. The device runs Nothing OS (1), which is based on Android 12. It makes a suitable device for NFT collectors since the phone has a built-in home screen widget for this. The company promises to deliver three years of Android OS updates and four years’ worth of security patches to be released every couple of months.
It’s worth noting that the device does not offer a charging brick in the box. But you can purchase a 45W charger separately for $35.
Pricing for the Nothing phone (1) starts at $469. It will be available at a 5-day Nothing pop-up kiosk in Covent Garden in London starting July 16. After that, the device will be available in “limited drops with partner retailers” starting July 18. An official sale will follow on July 21 on the Nothing website and its partners. Unfortunately, this phone will not be officially sold in the US.
