Honor may already be pushing past today’s idea of a “big battery.” A new report says the company is testing a battery with a rated capacity of 10,690mAh, and that could translate to a typical capacity of 11,000mAh or more in a future phone. If that happens, it would be another big step in a market where battery life is becoming just as important to buyers as camera quality or charging speed.
As reported by GSMArena, Honor has begun trial production of this new battery. The report does not name the phone that will use it, but it points to the possibility that the battery could show up in a follow-up to the Honor Power2.
That would make sense, since Honor has already been moving in this direction. The Honor Win and Honor Win RT were the first phones to debut with 10,000mAh batteries, and the Honor Power2 later arrived with a slightly larger 10,080mAh unit. The Power2 is also said to offer more than 20 hours of video playback, while supporting 80W wired charging and 27W reverse wired charging, which means it can also act a bit like a power bank.
For everyday users, the big takeaway is simple: Honor appears to be leaning hard into phones that last longer between charges. The upcoming Honor X80 is rumored to feature a 10,000mAh battery, so this may not be a one-off experiment. If these battery sizes keep showing up in real products, Honor could end up standing out with phones built around endurance first.
