Back in 2017, Samsung introduced a new program called Upcycling. Through this program, customers can turn in an older Galaxy phone so that it could be repurposed. Today at CES 2019, however, the South Korean manufacturer revealed that its Upcycling program can now be used to swap a Galaxy phone into an IoT device (Internet of Things).
Roughly, IoT refers to the different devices that can be hooked to the Internet. Some other technologies being featured include network connection support, sensors, actuators, and software. What this means is that you can trade in your old Galaxy device into a new fitness tracker or smart speaker to help make your rides a lot more bearable.
While this already sounds exciting to users, Samsung did not fully divulge information on when customers can start using its Upcycling at Home program. Hopefully, it will soon be ready for use.
