Verizon isn't staying quiet about T-Mobile's new feature that promises to switch customers from rival carriers in just 15 minutes. The company released a detailed response explaining why faster doesn't necessarily mean better when it comes to changing your wireless provider.
According to PhoneArena, Verizon argues that T-Mobile's automated approach might be too quick for its own good. The main concern? An AI tool making important decisions about which plan fits your needs without understanding the full picture of what you actually use your phone for.
As previously reported, T-Mobile launched its "Switching Made Easy" feature through the T-Life app, using artificial intelligence to analyze your current AT&T or Verizon plan and recommend the best T-Mobile option. The whole process happens from your couch, and you don't even need to pick a new phone right away—T-Mobile gives you up to 90 days to decide.
But Verizon claims its approach is more thorough, requiring customers to enter a Number Transfer PIN and their phone's IMEI number to prevent unauthorized account takeovers. The company also touts its "Pro On the Go" delivery service, which doesn't just drop off your phone like a DoorDash driver would—trained technicians stick around to set everything up, transfer your data, and even connect your device to your home Wi-Fi and smart accessories.
Verizon suggests that customers should upgrade their phones immediately when switching because that's when the biggest discounts are available, which some might see as a sales tactic rather than customer-first advice.
The timing of Verizon's pushback is interesting. T-Mobile recently overtook Verizon as the largest carrier by subscriber count, and Verizon's new CEO is working on a major turnaround plan that includes cutting 13,000 jobs. When you're losing customers, suddenly the process of switching becomes a lot more important to talk about.
