Earlier this week, a new Palm phone was unveiled as a “companion device” to your regular Android smartphone. You can leave your larger smartphone at home and continue to stay in touch and connected when you’re on the go. As a “companion device”, you can use the tiny Palm to focus on the more important things in life instead of being on your phone the whole day.
Although many would argue that a connected smartwatch is more easier to use, the Palm phone has some added functionality to it. For one, the Palm phone lets you use a couple of cameras so you can still capture some photos. Since it’s an Android device, the Palm phone also gives access to some apps.
On the hardware side of things, the Palm phone comes with a 3.3-inch HD LCD screen and Gorilla Glass 3 in the front and the back. The device has an aluminum frame in the middle. Powering the phone from within is an Octa-Core Snapdragon 435 processor with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, and an 800mAh battery. It also comes with IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. For a tiny device, the Palm includes a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera and an 8-megapixel sensor in front.
As mentioned, the device runs on Android 8.1 OS with Play Store access for downloading new apps. It works well with Android and iOS devices. Impressively, the device has a Life Mode feature that silences incoming calls and notifications while the screen is off. In order to start getting notifications, all you have to do is wake up the screen.
The Palm phone is slated for a launch next week. Today, however, Verizon confirmed that it will exclusively be offering the companion device starting November 2. It uses the NumberShare service offered by Verizon, so you can link an existing phone number to the tiny device since you can’t use it on its own. Verizon’s NumberShare service costs $10 per month, which will give you access to your calls, texts, and everything else you’ve synced with your Gmail account.
As for pricing details, the Palm phone costs $349.99 at full retail price. If you don’t want to pay the retail price upfront, you can get the device at $299.99 with a two-year contract or at $14.58 per month for 24 months.
