The offer was introduced by Big Red last June as a way for new and existing customers to get a free 5G phone on select plans. But after today’s Q2 earnings call, Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg has revealed that “We have already pulled the biggest 5G upgrade from the market.”
According to Wall Street analysts, much of the recent subscriber gain of the wireless carrier can be attributed to the promotion. In the recent earnings call, Verizon revealed that they earned 275,000 new phone subscribers in Q2 2021. This is an increase compared to the 178,000 they lost in the previous quarter.
The network provider ended Q2 2021 with 121.3 million total retail connections.
In addition to these numbers, Verizon revealed in the call that it is on track with its C-band buildout. They are on the right track to hit their goal of 7,000 to 8,000 C-band sites deployed this year.
As for its millimeter wave (mmWave) coverage, Verizon plans to deploy over 30,000 more sites before the year ends. CFO Matt Ellis revealed that they are “well ahead” of schedule for the first half of 2021.
