Ever since 2019 started, the big four carriers in the country have devoted much of their time to launching their own 5G networks in the hopes of making it live before the year ends. A few months before 2019 closes, U.S. Cellular has joined in on the bandwagon.
Earlier this week, U.S. Cellular revealed that it will be launching its own 5G network in the first quarter of 2020. The first two states to get 5G network from the carrier is Iowa and Wisconsin. The carrier will be using its 600 MHz spectrum for its initial 5G deployment. Once the network launches, customers will get to experience faster data speeds and more connected devices to the network simultaneously.
In its unveiling, U.S. Cellular explained that customers with 4G smartphones will get to see increased network quality once the 5G launch has started. This means that customers in select areas of Iowa and Wisconsin will get to be among the first to enjoy 5G speeds from U.S. Cellular. The areas that will get 5G service include the following:
As of this writing, U.S. Cellular has not disclosed which 5G devices they will be offering in their website and retail stores.
