Google has just released invitations for a press event happening before the end of this month, and mobile users could see the tech giant announce its latest Nexus handset and a few other new devices. Indeed, the company has already begun sending out invites to various media, basically enticing them to witness the unveiling of some new treats from Google in September 29th of this year.
Google has been doing some unexpected things of late. For instance back in August earlier this year, the company announced that it was re-organizing its divisions and grouping them under a parent entity called Alphabet. But when it comes to upcoming Nexus devices, Google has always been more predictable. A few weeks ago, reports surfaced that the company was indeed planning to introduce a new Nexus device on September 29th, and industry watchers are speculating that Google is collaborating with two phone makers -- LG and Huawei -- in bringing its newest Nexus offerings to life. And there is no doubt that the introduction of new Nexus devices has a connection with Google’s announcement of the next version of its Android mobile operating system -- Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Nexus devices have always been Google’s embodiment of its Android software due to the fact that these handsets run with a purer edition of the Android OS, and are more optimized for Google’s software for mobile. The last few years have seen the company partner with other mobile manufacturers in building its Nexus handsets. South Korean phone maker LG previously made the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5 smartphones. As for Huawei, this marks the first time the Chinese mobile manufacturer has collaborated with Google. Various speculations suggest that LG is tasked with building a standard size Nexus device, while Huawei will be making a Nexus phablet.
If this turns out to be true, it would certainly make a lot sense, considering that industry leaders such as Apple and Samsung have launched regular size and large editions of their respective flagship devices (Apple has its iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus; Samsung has its Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus) in order to cater to different customer preferences. Google clearly wants to join in on the fun.
Apart from the new Nexus devices, Google may also be debuting a new version of its Chromecast media streaming hardware on September 29th. According to 9to5Google, Chromecast 2.0 will arrive later this month with a few enhancements, including better Wi-Fi connectivity, faster playing, multiple room support, and a tweaked audio feedback.
