At first glance, you may have not heard of CREDO Mobile. However, they offer benefits just like the larger cell phone companies do, like family plans and subsidized devices. If a prospective customer approves of the idea of a portion of their monthly cellular bill going to nonprofit groups, then CREDO may be a good choice.
What really put CREDO on the map is their commitment to progressivism and social change. They assert that they are the only cell phone company in the U.S. that is politically progressive. The fact that they really do make financial contributions to multiple nonprofit and activist groups that tend to lean towards the left makes the companies' bold claim true. Past organizations that they have contributed to include those that are concerned with the environment, women's equality, and social justice. Employees apparently get to vote every month as to where the donations are disbursed. (Which groups receive their contributions are published on their website every month also, for those that are curious!) For those that share the same philosophy as CREDO, it can actually be exciting to pay one's phone bill each month. On the other hand, if you lean more towards the right side of the political spectrum, it may not be the service for you.

Another thing that sets CREDO apart from other smaller cellular providers is the fact that they still feature cell phone plans that require a contract, when many carriers have done away with such 'old school' ways. Even the major cellular companies (like AT&T and T-Mobile) now offer pay-as-you-go plans to keep up with the flood of smaller companies offering contract-free, inexpensive cell service. They also offer installment plans for their customers, family plans, and subsidized devices.
As far as price is concerned, the cost of philanthropy for a potential phone subscriber is not cheap. In fact, CREDO is one of the most expensive cell phone providers. Their basic plan, which offers one line, unlimited talk, unlimited texting, and only 1GB of data is $50 a month. Recall that doesn't even include the price of a phone (yet), unless a new subscriber plans on bringing a compatible, unlocked device when they join. For those that are non-political, the steep price might be a little easier to accept if CREDO stepped it up a notch to compete with the large cell providers. Their service runs on the Verizon Network, but allows subscribers to support those causes that are close to their heart.

Finally, the only two manufacturers that CREDO Mobile offers are Apple and Samsung. So, unless they were decided on a top of the line Samsung Galaxy or an iPhone, a new customer would have the choice of a Samsung flip phone, or purchasing a phone on an installment plan.
CREDO Mobile is certainly not your everyday typical cellular provider. However, if you support the same causes they do, and wouldn't mind being locked into a contract where you'd have to make monthly contributions to those causes, you might be the perfect customer for CREDO!
