How to Extend Android Battery Life

Just purchased a new Android phone? Good luck having a battery that will last all day! From playing Angry Birds, surfing the web, reading your RSS feeds, and tweeting your every move your battery might only last a few hours.

Below are step-by-step instructions we put together to help you conserve your battery life.

1. Once you receive your new Android device (that you bought from Wirefly) the first place to visit is your ‘Settings’ in the Main Menu.
2. Under the ‘Display’ option change your ‘Animation’ to some or none.
3. Reduce your screen brightness to a low level, just bright enough to see.
4. Change your screen timeout to 15 or 30 seconds, this will help reduce your battery’s impact while you are not using your phone.
5. If you don’t need it (which unless you want to be really fancy, you really don’t) disable moving wallpapers as this feature severely drains the battery.
6. If you aren’t using Bluetooth or GPS turn those off as well.
7. Also be cautious with applications that like to automatically refresh. Change these settings to your comfort level. For example, if you don’t check your Twitter stream every 30 seconds than there is no need for your Twitter application to refresh itself every 30 seconds.

There are many advocates of the task killer application, however those applications seem to drain the battery more as it is always working in the background. Aside from the tips above, we’d also recommend a car charger or a second home charger from Wirefly that you can use while you’re at work.     So I really want to get a phone from wirefly.com, I have one question though, if I have to pay some type of deposit (for sprint services) is there a way I can findout what that would be before I place the order?

    • EVO, the carrier (Sprint, in this case) decides if there needs to be a deposit and how much the deposit will be. Wirefly won’t know that until you get into the order process and Sprint does a credit check. So the bottom line is that you can’t find out in advance what the deposit will be for a phone ordered through Wirefly.

    I don’t have my phone yet, but by reading some of the comments….Are there normally problems with phones purchased from Wirefly? Sprint did tell me that Wirefly, as being the third party vendor for Sprint, are responsible for taking care of problems with phones. I just want to know in advance, because I don’t want any hassles.

    • Rosalyn, the phones that Wirefly sells are exactly like those sold by Sprint and the other carriers. Any problems with phones purchased from Wirefly occur at the same rate they happen when purchased from Sprint.

    Please help. I purchased my android cell phone through Wirefly, along with a Sprint contract.

    I love my phone, but I have already had to replace it once before, because it was not working correctly. Now again, I am having problems since yesterday. It won’t take a charge. The screen message reads, battery is too hot or cool.

    Is there anything I can do to fix this problem that won’t cost me money?

    Or do I once again need to send it back to your company for a brand new phone? Hopefully it will be replaced for free.

    • Karen, Wirefly will replace any phone that you are not satisfied with, provided that it is less than 30 days old. If the phone is older than 30 days, you will need to stop at a Sprint store to learn what can be done. I know that this is a burden but it’s the only way to take care of it at this point.
