According to Apple, it needs a little more time in order to get its AirPod wireless headphones ready for general release. This means that we can not probably expect the headphones to become widely available within this month. As explained by a spokesperson for the iPhone maker, the initial demand for the AirPods has been remarkable (more on that later), and in order to meet that demand, the company will have to make sure that when the AirPods roll out, every interested customer will be able to purchase a pair.
It is not uncommon for product launches to be delayed, especially in mobile. The reason sometimes is that manufacturers often still have to sort out additional bugs or hardware issues as the release date approaches. But since we are talking about Apple, a global brand, delays in release schedules could easily hit headlines (despite the absence of any significant issue). If anything else, it might slightly bother Apple’s fans, especially those who have a hard time exercising some patience.
On Apple’s part, it might be a good decision to make sure that its AirPods are ready for deployment. In light of Samsung’s failure with its Galaxy Note 7, mobile manufacturers might be extra careful now in ensuring that their latest and newest products do not come with any major quality related problems. But considering that Apple did not exactly give a timeline, it is pretty understandable for prospective buyers to feel a little bit miffed.
But they should not be. It is worth noting that the AirPods after all are a brand new hardware offering for Apple. And considering the multiple new tech that the iPhone maker had to incorporate onto the headphones, there is bound to be some bug or issue somewhere. Most importantly, Apple simply can not afford any misstep now, especially when it continues to deal with some smartphone sales woes.
It could just be a case of a manufacturer trying its best to give customers what they expect. And as mentioned earlier, there really is excitement about the AirPods (and truth to tell, some backlash too). Last month, we reported about a survey conducted by the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Research, which showed that iOS mobile users actually are looking forward more to purchasing Apple’s new wireless headphones than its newest Apple Watch model (aka the Apple Watch Series 2). Price could be a factor -- the Apple Watch after all starts at $369, while the AirPods cost $159.
