Sprint’s prepaid arm, Boost Mobile, is introducing a new four line promotional deal called Project Switch. Basically, this latest special offer comes with four lines of service with unlimited voice calls, text messaging, and data, as well as 8 gigabytes of mobile hotspot use, for a price of $100 a month, or equivalent to only $25 for each line of service. Strictly speaking, customers will be paying $100 for the first line of service, with the second, third, and fourth line offered essentially free of charge.
Together with this promo, Sprint is also launching a new advertising campaign, and also readying to deploy Boost Mobile’s Next Generation retail stores. For those not familiar with Next Generation outlets, they are basically stores that adopt a modern and efficient approach in design that fosters better interaction between consumers and Boost Mobile’s staff.
In order to become eligible for the four line $100 a month family plan, interested partiers will have to port in at least a single line of service from a rival wireless service provider. Obviously, customers defecting from Sprint, or any brand owned by the major US wireless carrier (like Boost Mobile or Virgin Mobile, for instance), are not qualified for the promotional deal. Moreover, an extra line of service added will have to be new or ported to Boost Mobile’s network. People are actually free to get an additional fifth line of service for $30 a month. All Boost Mobile customers on this plan will get to enjoy unlimited 4G LTE data.
But users better be aware of a few caveats. While it is true that customers will enjoy full speed data when web surfing and downloading content, Boost Mobile does have limitations regarding streaming. Any video content streamed is “mobile optimized” at 480p, while any musical track is streamed at 500 kbps, and gaming at up to 2 mbps. These connection speeds are actually not bad for the average user, but for those who prefer to consume media on HD video specs or play games at super fast connection speeds, they might want to look at other options. Boost Mobile does offer a HD buy up option for $20 a month for each line of service. This option increases connection speeds up to over 1,080p for video content, 1.5 mbps for music streaming, and 8 mbps for games.
