When the HTC Desire 610 was launched in AT&T in July earlier this year, Taiwanese phone maker HTC also announced that it was going to expand and introduce other models of its Desire product line in the United States market, particularly through other carriers. Now, recent reports suggest that Verizon Wireless may be joining that select group of carriers that will be offering a Desire device soon.
Apparently, images of the HTC Desire 612 appeared unannounced on Verizon's website. The first image was sighted in the equipment guide support web page of the carrier. Specifically, the image shows a schematic breakdown of the device. Rendered as an illustrated diagram, the image shows a frontal view of the phone complete with individual parts numbered (accompanied by a listing of said parts). Aside from the image, a user manual was also found.
As seen on Verizon's support page, the Desire 612 appears to sport a rounded edge design. A camera/flash combo centered high on the backside of the device can also be seen, which based on past Desire handsets is a familiar feature of the model.
Another report by TK Tech News even has a purported leaked press image. According to TK Tech News, the HTC Desire 612 will feature a 4.7-inch display screen with a resolution of 960 by 540. The report also claims that that handset will have an 8-megapixel rear camera as well as a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Other rumored specs and features of the all-metal body device include 8 gigabytes of internal storage, 1.5 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM), a microSD card slot (up to 128 gigabytes), Boomsound speakers, and a 2,040 mAh battery. The handset will reportedly run on Android 4.4.3.
Regarding its availability and pricing, the HTC Desire 612 will reportedly be available starting on Thursday, October 9th (Verizon has a fondness for launching new handsets on Thursdays) for $19.99 with a two-year agreement.
HTC has been making an effort to diversity its smartphone offerings this year. With the release of the Desire 610 and very soon the Desire 612, the Taiwan-based mobile manufacturer is certainly rolling out numerous options for American users, which HTC is hoping to grab a significant chunk of in the market. The Desire 612 in particular could be an enticing option for some of those users, considering that the device is really accessible budget-wise and is equipped with some fairly interesting features.
