Rumors pertaining to HTC’s upcoming flagship device offering, the U12, may have surfaced in the interwebs earlier this month, but the Taiwanese tech giant is just content moving along with its phone making business. This week sees the company unleash two new additions to its Desire lineup of smartphones -- meet the Desire 12 and the Desire 12 Plus.
Let us get the specificationss out of the way first. The HTC Desire 12 offers a 5.5 inch display with a resolution of 720 by 1,440 pixels, a pixel density of 293 ppi, and an 18 to 9 ratio. This screen is complemented with a 13 megapixel main camera (with an f/2.2 aperture) on the rear side, as well as a 5 megapixel selfie shooter on the front side.
As far as hardware specs go, the Desire 12 is armed with a MediaTek MT6739 1.3 GigaHertz Cortex A53 chip set (four cores), supported with 3 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) and 32 gigabytes of built in storage. The smartphone also features a non-removable 2,730 mAh battery, Google’s Android 8.0 Oreo mobile operating system, and color options of cool black and warm silver.
As for the Desire 12 Plus, the phablet delivers a commanding 6 inch screen (with 720 by 1,440 pixel resolution, 268 ppi density, and 18 to 9 ratio), paired with a 13 megapixel main camera sensor on the rear and an 8 megapixel shooter on the front. With Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450 processor (eight cores, 1.8 GigaHertz; plus 3 gigabytes of RAM, 32 gigabytes of onboard memory), the Desire 12 Plus has an edge over the smaller Desire 12, chips wise. Unlike its sibling, the Desire 12 Plus also offers a rear mounted fingerprint sensor, and additional color options of gold and silver. Lastly, it possesses a 2,965 mAh battery and is powered by Android Oreo.
The sleek design of the latest members of the HTC’s Desire series of handsets will likely generate some buzz, considering that their acrylic glass look cleverly pays tribute to last year’s U11 flagship. But the new Desire models look to provide a more tough exterior, while of course providing solid specs for a midrange option.
For those who prefer a relatively new device with more high end specs, they might want to check the U11 Eyes phablet that HTC had announced more than a couple of months ago. Or, they can just browse other phones and plans from HTC at Wirefly now.
