LG’s new smartphone offering, the Wine Smart, is an old school style handset that features a clamshell design, which might appeal to certain mobile users who miss the good old days. Moreover, the LG Wine Smart device is fitted with a physical alphanumeric keyboard, exactly like those sported by most cell phone devices released about a decade ago, when touch screen smartphones have not yet become mainstream. But when mobile users flip open the LG Wine Smart handset, they will discover that the device is powered by Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
According to Chris Yie, vice president and head of marketing communications of LG Mobile Communications, the company’s goal with the LG Wine Smart smartphone is to produce a handset that caters to mobile users who fancy flip phones, but cannot find one now because of the increased popularity of touch screen smartphones. The bonus for those who end up buying the LG Wine Smart handset is that they get an old school phone in terms of the exteriors, but actually an Android smartphone on the inside.
As far as specifications go, the LG Wine Smart is actually not bad, especially when you consider that it is really just a souped up flip phone. The device comes with a 3.5 inch display, which should be noted is a touch screen. This means that the LG Wine Smart does not only offer a physical keyboard, it can also fill the needs of those who prefer taking advantage of touch screen capabilities. The handset is also fitted with dual camera -- a 3 megapixel one on the rear side and a VGA camera on the front side.
With regards to hardware features, the LG Wine Smart possesses a 1.1 GigaHertz quad core chip, and is supported with 1 gigabyte of random access memory (RAM) and 4 gigabytes of internal storage. This LG smartphone also has a 1,700 mAh battery. Colors available for this handset include burgundy and navy.
As mentioned earlier, the LG Wine Smart runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Its other features include Wi-Fi 802.1 1 b, g, n connectivity, Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, and USB 2.0 connectivity. It can also support 4G LTE networks and HSPA+ 42 mbps (3G) networks.
Although it is known as the LG Gentle in South Korea, it will remain as the LG Wine Smart when it lands in the next few weeks in smartphone markets in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Kazakhstan, and Japan.
