When LG first introduced its G6 flagship device back in February early this year, it also debuted a phablet with an extra tall display screen, specifically one that sports an aspect ratio of 18:9. Previous flagship offerings from the South Korean tech giant had featured a 16:9 aspect ratio, so the 18:9 ratio of the G6 phablet was considered by some as a welcome change. Apparently, there was enough appreciation for the 18:9 aspect ratio for the phone maker to adopt it in a new lineup of midrange smartphone devices.
Meet the Q6+, the Q6, and the Q6α -- a family of handsets that are basically designed as fairly affordable options for mobile users. All three devices come with a 5.5 inch display (as mentioned earlier, it sports an 18:9 aspect ratio FullVision screen) with a resolution of 2,160 by 1,080 pixels. The main difference between the Q6 devices and the G6 is that the flagship is fitted with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chip set and a bigger 5.7 inch size. Also, as a high end phablet offering, the G6 offered more built in memory space as well as premium sound specs.
As for the three new Q6 devices, they essentially differ in terms of the random access memory (RAM) and onboard storage configurations. The Q6+ features 4 gigabytes of RAM and 64 gigabytes of memory; the Q6 has 3 gigabytes of RAM and 32 gigabytes of storage; and the Q6α offers a couple of gigabytes of RAM and 16 gigabytes of space.
Other notable specifications of the Q6 lineup include:
No details with regards to pricing are made available yet. The devices are expected to launch first in Asia next month, but they should be released in international markets (including North America) at a later date.
