Nowadays, a smartphone's camera plays a vital role on how marketable the device will be. Since most smartphone users today are active on photo sharing apps like Instagram and Facebook, it is perfectly understandable why many are looking for a phone that comes with a capable camera. So when OnePlus made an announcement on its partnership with DxO, it came as a delightful surprise to many.
Earlier today, Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus announced that they have partnered with DxO for the camera specs on its next flagship device, the OnePlus 5. DxO is a French photography software company best known for its DxOMark reference guide. The guide takes into account different cameras, smartphone cameras, and lenses and reviews them in order to rank them against each other. Often, the rankings that smartphone manufacturers get from DxOMark are used as bragging rights. As of this writing, the HTC U11 has the highest ranking from the guide. It scored 90, which HTC obtained shortly since it launched in October. Before the HTC U11 obtained this ranking, the title belonged to the Google Pixel for the longest time.
Another product DxO is famous for is the DxO One, an attachable phone camera accessory that allows users to post-process their photos directly on their device.
Although the partnership was announced today, there is still no clear information on what it will mean for both parties. The partnership does not necessarily mean that OnePlus' next flagship device will be equipped with a great camera. But it is still good to know that OnePlus is doing its part to ensure its cameras will be able to compete against the better ones in the market. Right now, OnePlus is recognized for manufacturing quality devices at midrange prices. With a better camera, it would definitely step up more.
Apart from the partnership with DxO, there is not much information about the OnePlus 5 available. The smartphone company still has not unveiled the official design or specs of the phone. There are some rumors though that point to the device having dual cameras. But since OnePlus is keeping mum about this, it is pretty hard to tell this early on. More details will most likely be unveiled as its launch date gets nearer. Retail site Oppomart, however, already has a listing for the device leaked in the interwebs. And the specs reportedly include: a 5.5 inch QHD display screen with resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 pixels, 12 megapixel dual cameras on the rear side, an 8 megapixel camera on the front side, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip set, 6 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM), and a fingerprint sensor on the front side. The listing includes a $449 price as well as an estimated ship date of early June.
