According to reports, Apple is planning to do a major change to how they will sell their hardware products.
As reported by Bloomberg, Apple has plans to set up a subscription service “similar to paying a monthly app fee,” which will allow its users to buy iPhone and iPad hardware. If this pushes through, it will be the company’s “biggest push yet into automatically recurring sales.”
Currently, Apple allows US customers to finance hardware purchases via its Apple Card product. They also have the iPhone Upgrade Program in place through Citizens Bank. If this new hardware subscription service will push through, it could be available “by the end of 2022 or in 2023.”
“The program would differ from an installment program in that the monthly charge wouldn’t be the price of the device split across 12 or 24 months. Rather, it would be a yet-to-be-determined monthly fee that depends on which device the user chooses.”
Right now, details about the subscription service have not yet been ironed out. There’s still no official announcement but it’s something that Apple is definitely looking into.
