Last year, Apple gave its customers something to look forward to– a Self Service Repair program that allows users to fix their own devices. After a long wait, the program is finally available in the US.
If you have been waiting for this program to be available in the country, this is great news for you. The program gives you access to more than 200 genuine Apple parts and repair tools that can be used on the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone SE 2022.
You simply need to choose and order parts from the Self Service Repair Store and they will be sent to your home. Some of the parts that are available in the shop include displays, speakers, camera modules, batteries, Taptic engines, SIM trays, and several other spare parts.
There’s an option to rent out repair tools for $49/week so you don’t have to buy any of the tools you might need for fixing your phone. You can opt to mail in your old parts to get a store credit too. If you mail in an old display, you can get a $33.60 store credit. An old battery mailed in will also give you a $24.15 store credit.
While you may be tempted to DIY your phone repair, Apple says that this option is “intended for individuals who are experienced with the complexities of repairing electronic devices.” And the good news is that if you repair your phone using parts you ordered from this program will not void your warranty. But if you incur any hardware damage during the repair process, it will not be covered by the warranty.
