AT&T is improving its RCS service.
As reported by 9to5Google, AT&T is switching over its RCS platform to Google’s Jibe instead of the Messages app. The wireless carrier rolled out RCS service in June 2021.
This afternoon, SVP Hiroshi Lockheimer announced that Google will be “working with AT&T to accelerate adoption of the RCS standard and that AT&T’s default Android messaging will now be via the Jibe platform.”
Before making this switch, AT&T users complained about the setup and pointed to the number of send/receive errors that kept on occurring. With the new announcement, AT&T expects this to be resolved. This is because Jibe has a Cloud service that allows carriers to “easily launch and manage RCS services with Google-hosted infrastructure” instead of using their own servers to host it.
One of the things that users can expect to change with this is that customers will be able to get the “latest RCS features instantly.”
If you are using RCS messaging on AT&T, you can expect a better experience soon.
