Sonim has unveiled its newest phone, the XP5plus. This device is an update to its rugged XP5s feature phone. The new device comes with PTT (push-to-talk), which is specifically designed for first responders as well as other field workers.
Apart from PTT, the new Sonim XP5plus has some changes to it. First of all, there are two large physical knobs on the upper part of the new device. These two knobs have been added for PTT channel select and volume. In a way, they have been added to operate similarly to conventional two-way radios. Sonim has also created a version of the XP5plus without these knobs.
There is also an accessory connector called “Sonim SecureAudio” in the device. This ensures that even in rigorous activity, accessories such as headsets and RSMs stay connected to the phone.
As a rugged device, the Sonim XP5plus comes with IPx9K and standard military ratings. The former is not only graded for water-resistance but also pressure washing, detergents, and high-pressure steam.
Compared to its older brother, the XP5plus comes with a larger display. Other features include a camera, expandable storage, and extra-loud front speakers.
The XP5plus is available at AT&T for $298. It is compatible with AT&T’s exclusive network for first responders, FirstNet.
