Dish Network currently investigating recent cybersecurity breach

Just before the weekend, it was reported that Dish Network experienced a network outage that was ongoing for at least a couple of days. And today, the cable provider confirmed that it was actually a cybersecurity breach that affected both their internal communications systems and its support sites used by their customers. 

Light Reading reports that the systems issue is actually on its sixth day today. The publication also revealed that “certain data was extracted” from their IT systems. Dish promised that they are currently conducting an internal investigation to get to the bottom of the issue.

Last week, Dish Network’s website was inaccessible for several days. Following this discovery, the wireless provider reported that its internal communications were breached. Sadly, this remains affected, along with its customer call centers. To help with the matter, Dish already retained outside experts. 

Its customers, on the other hand, encountered “authentication issues” as they tried to access some paid TV channel apps using their logins from Dish Network. 

The cybersecurity breach started in the morning of February 23, which was the same day that Dish held its Q4 earnings call. 

While the investigation and assessment of the breach is ongoing, Dish assures that its Dish TV, Sling TV, wireless and data networks “remain operational.”
