SpaceX is working on its own Starlink Satellite cellular service. And today, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued the company a “Special Temporary Authorization” so that it can test “direct-to-cellular communications payloads.”
As PCMag reports, SpaceX’s testing will be on unmodified cell phones.
Since Starlink’s Direct to Cell service is slated for launch in 2024, SpaceX and T-Mobile are working hard to make this happen. They are being given 180 days to conduct the testing, which will end on June 14, 2024.
According to the report, SpaceX will have access to the FCC’s cellular Starlink system for smartphones in more than two dozen locations in the country to get data.
