Google is working hard at making smartphone usage better for everyone. Just recently, the tech giant announced its latest feature for Android smartphone users.
The company has launched a new braille keyboard into Android’s TalkBack accessibility suite. This new virtual braille keyboard is “a fast, convenient way to type on your phone without any additional hardware, whether you’re posting on social media, responding to a text, or writing a brief email.”
There are six zones used by the keyboard. These are all found on a smartphone screen, which people typically use to rest their ring, middle, and index fingers. Each combination of fingers has a corresponding braille dot. The different combinations result in a letter from the alphabet. For example, you simply press dot 1 to type the letter A. And to type the letter B, you tap on dots 1 and 2 together.
Not only is this a helpful way to type, it’s a great way for people to be familiar with braille characters. Once the TalkBack braille keyboard has been activated and set up, you can easily access this from the international keyboard by switching to the feature from the default keyboard of Android.
