Android users testing Google Messages' latest beta version are seeing a weird glitch where the messaging app appears twice in their phone's app list. Both identical icons work normally, but it's creating unnecessary clutter.
According to PhoneArena, this affects Google Messages beta version 20250811_03_RC00 on Pixel and Samsung devices. The duplicate icons show up in the app drawer but not on home screens or in search results.
The problem stems from a coding mistake where Google accidentally told Android to display the app twice. Some users who tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app ended up with three icons instead of two.
The bug doesn't affect the app's functionality - your messages still work fine. But if you want a clean phone interface, the easiest fix is exiting the beta program and using the regular version until Google patches the issue.
This is typical beta software behavior. Google usually fixes these bugs quickly in the next update.
