Google recently released the latest Android security update for the month of December 2023.
As shared by PhoneArena, the December security update was released today, the first Monday of the month. This indicates that Google is going back to releasing the update on the first Monday of every month since it also did that in November. But it remains to be seen if this will continue every month.
The security update released today comes with a patch for CVE-2023-40088, which tackles one of the 85 vulnerabilities. This particular vulnerability has been identified as an RCE or Remote code execution. Attackers have a chance to use the patch to place a code into the target phone without requiring the user’s permission. The report does not reveal whether the vulnerability has been exploited already.
Unfortunately, today’s release does not include a security patch for Pixel devices. This is because Google plans to release the December Pixel update as a Pixel Feature Drop. The update will include several new features for qualified Pixel models. One feature that Pixel 8 Pro users are already looking forward to is Video Boost, which automatically makes two copies of a recorded video. The second copy gets sent to the cloud, where Google “boosts” the video. Once the video is ready, the user gets a notification that it is available on the Google Photo library.
