After Google released the Android 14 update for Pixel devices, a storage bug affected certain phones. In particular, it affected Pixel 6 devices with multiple profiles set up. Once a phone was infected by the bug, it restricted users from gaining access to their media storage. The only way to fix it (at the time) was to factory reset their phones.
Thankfully, the issue has been raised to Google. They have also posted a message on its community forums explaining what they are doing about the bug.
Google wrote:
“We are aware of an issue occurring on some Pixel devices (Pixel 6 and later models) that have both received the Android 14 update and have multiple users (other than the primary user) set up. Multiple users include users, guests, restricted profiles, and child users. However, it does not include having more than one Google account within the primary user or work profiles,”
Although a factory data reset seemed to be the quickest way to get rid of the bug, it wasn’t a feasible solution for those who have not backed up their data. Thankfully, the tech giant has pushed out a Google Play System update that will fix this storage bug.
Google also says that they are “continuing to work on fixes for impacted devices.”
Once the OTA update is ready, Google will release it to these users. This will restore users’ access to their media files without needing to factory reset their phones. In the meantime, Google advises users not to log into or create a secondary user on their device until the update is released.
