Helium Mobile has announced updates to its Zero Plan that take effect January 27, 2026. According to Helium Mobile's official support documentation, the changes affect how taxes and fees are handled and how your data is allocated between different networks. The good news is the plan remains free, but there are some important adjustments users should be aware of.
The biggest change revolves around taxes and fees. Previously, Helium Mobile absorbed these costs to keep the Zero Plan truly free. Starting January 27, taxes and fees will appear on your monthly bill.
These aren't charges from Helium Mobile itself; they're government-mandated taxes and payment processing fees that vary by location. To ensure you can continue service without interruption, you'll need to have a valid payment method on file. If you don't add a card or payment information by January 27, your account risks suspension and eventual cancellation.
Your data allocation is also getting restructured. You'll still receive 3GB of data monthly, along with 300 texts and 100 minutes of calling. However, the data will now be split differently. Two gigabytes will be available exclusively on the Helium Network (Helium's own hotspot coverage), while one gigabyte will work on the nationwide partner network.
To find Helium hotspots near you, the company provides a coverage map on their website where you can see real-time network locations.
What should you do now? First, add a payment method to your Helium Mobile account if you haven't already. You can do this through the app by tapping the "You" button and selecting "Billing." Check your billing date in the same location so you know when charges will appear. If you're not satisfied with these changes, Helium Mobile allows penalty-free cancellations through January 27, with your account ending at the close of your current billing cycle.
For users who want more data or different terms, Helium Mobile offers the Air and Infinity plans as paid alternatives. If you run low on your 3GB allocation during the month, you can purchase data boosts through the app. The company frames these updates as necessary to sustain the Zero Plan long-term while keeping it accessible to budget-conscious customers.
The specifics of how much taxes and fees will add to your bill depend on your service address and local regulations.
