Bloatware has continuously been a problem for many smartphone users. This is especially true with users who purchase a carrier-locked device with an installment plan. Although the price of the device doesn’t cost too much compared to purchasing it from a retailer, these devices are usually laden with unwanted apps.
One Reddit user recently took to the social forum to voice out their frustration over the amount of pop-ups and bloatware they get. And as PhoneArena pointed out, this is a frequent occurrence on Android devices purchased at T-Mobile.
Thankfully, this isn’t the case for iOS devices. That’s because Apple doesn’t allow carriers to install additional apps on its devices. It prefers to have more control over these devices instead of handing them over to carriers.
If you are considering purchasing an Android device from T-Mobile, it would be better to pick a Pixel device since these typically have a clean experience with minimal changes.
For other devices (yes, including the top-of-the-line Samsung models), bloatware remains to be a problem. One way you can take care of this, however, is to go to Apps to disable T-Mobile’s App Selector.
It’s important to note though that after updates, T-Mobile’s App Selector may return. You simply have to go back to repeat the process so you no longer have to worry about bloatware on your device.
On the other hand, you need to go to Verizon App Manager to take care of bloatware on Verizon-bought devices. On AT&T devices, you have to manually disable or uninstall bloatware apps.
It’s a small inconvenience, but it’s something that comes with the option of buying a carrier-locked device offered with an installment plan.
