Even though there are already plenty of vaccination programs in the country, people are still adamant to go back to how their lives were before the pandemic. This is why there are organizers that are reverting to cancelling or postponing their events.
One such event that has been cancelled is this year’s IFA 2021 (Internationale Funkausstellung), Europe’s biggest tech show. The event was originally slated to make its return this September in Berlin. But unfortunately, the event organizers have decided to cancel this year’s consumer electronics trade show.
The reason behind the cancellation of this year’s event is due to the “rapid emergence of new COVID-19 variants” around the world. Moreover, there are “continued uncertainties” about the rollout of the global vaccine. Right now, data reveals that over 1.51 billion vaccine doses have been administered around the world with an average of 25 million per day. This number comprises that of the US, Europe, and China.
In addition to this, part of the exhibition area where the IFA is hosted every year is still being used as an emergency hospital and vaccination center. With this to consider, the organizers are putting their efforts into making IFA 2022 happen instead.
Despite this, another tech event is slated to continue its plans to hold an in-person event. The MWC 2021 is pushing through with its event in Barcelona, which will take place from June 28 to July 1. There have been some participants, like Samsung, that have already pulled out from the event. If this continues in the coming weeks, MWC 2021 could also be cancelled.
