Yesterday, LG confirmed the rumors that it would exit the mobile phone business. With its announcement, LG promised that it will not leave its existing users in the cold.
As revealed by LG’s South Korean website, LG will continue rolling out Android 11 updates to select devices. In addition to Android 11, there will be some devices that will get an Android 12 update too. However, LG has not yet revealed which devices would be receiving these updates.
As to when these updates will arrive, LG says that it will all depend on Google’s testing and deployment procedures. The availability of updates will vary by country. LG promises to continue releasing security updates. But again, it’s unclear on how long these updates will last.
Considering LG is expected to shut down its doors by July 31st, these are some things that the South Korean manufacturer needs to address beforehand.
With regards to hardware support, LG’s service centers will continue to repair phones and honor coupons for free repairs. But there will be a limited supply of phones and accessories available in these stores.
