Good news! Google has started rolling out Emergency SOS via satellite to users of the latest Pixel 9 devices.
This is a life-saving feature that is now available throughout the US in areas that support satellite connectivity. Users of these devices can now send emergency messages and even share their location even in areas that are not covered by a cellular network.
As shared by PhoneArena, Emergency SOS via satellite makes use of GPS, cellular, and satellite technology. When Emergency SOS is activated, the device will try to connect to cellular networks. Once no signal is found, it will switch to satellite connectivity. This will allow users to send a text message containing their location and other important data to emergency services.
If you are using any of the new Pixel 9 devices, you’ll find the feature available on the Settings menu, under Safety and emergency. The availability of this emergency feature marks an important milestone in the US. The new Pixel 9 devices are among the first Android devices in the country to offer this feature. Hopefully, it’s a feature that will not be needed.
