Shortly after the release, some Google Pixel owners say the Android 17 update is making home screen widgets disappear. In some of those cases, those widgets also vanish from the widget picker, so they can’t simply be added back. Reports mention missing Clock, Calendar, Gemini, Keep, search bar, battery, and other widgets across several Pixel models, turning what should be a routine software update into a frustrating cleanup job.
According to user reports on Reddit (as spotted by BGR), the problem appears to be linked to phones using a Work Profile. Another Reddit post says the issue showed up after updating devices including a Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel Tablet, and the user was able to narrow it down to work-profile widget access rather than a broken launcher or bad install.
The good news is that some users have found temporary fixes. In the main Reddit thread, people say toggling Focus Mode or Extreme Battery Saver can sometimes bring widgets back. Others say removing and re-enabling apps, or even deleting the Work Profile, can help.
For phones managed through Microsoft Intune, one commenter says changing the “Allow widgets from work profile apps” setting from “Enabled” to “Not configured” fixed the issue, though affected widgets may still need to be added again afterward.
For now, the safest takeaway is simple: if your Pixel lost its widgets right after Android 17 and you use a Work Profile, that setup may be the reason. Until Google rolls out a broader fix, the best options look like temporary workarounds rather than a permanent cure.
