There are reports that Apple will be removing its SIM tray from iPhones beginning with the iPhone 15 in 2023. It looks like there is some truth behind those rumors since Apple is believed to be in talks with major US carriers.
According to MacRumors, the tech giant is already speaking with the major carriers in the country. It is believed to be advising them to get ready for eSIM-only smartphones, which will be coming by September 2022. The report was also corroborated by a reliable Apple leaker, @dylandkt.
By removing the physical SIM tray, there seems to be a couple of advantages for Apple’s end. The first is that it would lessen the port on the frame, which would allow Apple to keep out water and dust from the internals of the phone. At the same time, they will no longer need to manufacture the components needed for a SIM tray.
Adding to the absence of a headphone jack and the transition to MagSafe accessories, Apple is getting closer to having a port-less iPhone. Once the physical SIM slot is removed, the only thing left is the charger.
