Samsung just unveiled something pretty wild: a phone that folds in three sections and opens up into a 10-inch tablet. The Galaxy Z TriFold basically gives you a regular smartphone when closed and a full tablet experience when opened, all in one device.
According to Samsung Mobile Press, when folded up, it looks like a normal phone with a 6.5-inch screen that's about half an inch thick. But unfold it, and you've got three ultra-thin panels (each about 4mm) connected by two hinges that create a tablet-sized display.
The really interesting part is what Samsung calls "standalone DeX mode," which turns the big screen into something that works like a desktop computer—no extra monitor needed. You can still hook up an external display if you want two screens, and it works whether you connect a keyboard and mouse or just use the touchscreen.
Samsung made sure you don't fold it the wrong way and damage that big inner screen. The phone actually vibrates and shows you warnings if you're about to close it incorrectly. When properly folded, the main display stays completely protected inside.
Under the hood, there's a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a 200-megapixel main camera as part of a triple-camera system, and a 5,600 mAh battery that charges at 45W wired or 15W wirelessly. It's got cameras on both the outside and inside screens and is rated IP48 for dust and water resistance.
South Korea gets it this month, with US availability coming in the first quarter of next year. Samsung hasn't announced US pricing yet.
