Just before the week ended, international customers of the three major carriers in the country reported having roaming issues in certain countries. Syniverse, an American communications tech company, has responded to the issues and pinpointed what was causing the global roaming outage. The company also addressed concerns that it was the result of a cyberattack.
In a statement, Syniverse said that the roaming issue was caused by a “signaling storm.” The “misconfiguration” allegedly caused the network to flood with a near-infinite loop of error messages. There was no record of a cyberattack affecting any of the carriers.
Since then, the roaming issue has been fixed. AT&T has already released a statement saying it will credit customers for the days of the outage. Meanwhile, we’re still waiting for Verizon and T-Mobile to release a statement on how they are compensating the customers who were affected by the outage for a few days.
