T-Mobile is pulling the plug on its JUMP! On Demand phone leasing program after a decade-long run. The carrier will officially end the program on December 1st, but there's a silver lining for customers currently enrolled – and it's a pretty sweet deal.
According to The Mobile Report, T-Mobile started notifying existing JUMP! On Demand customers on October 15th about the program's closure. But here's where it gets interesting: the carrier is not only giving these customers one last chance to upgrade to a new device, but it's also forgiving the entire remaining lease balance on December 1st.
That means if you're currently leasing a phone through the program, you'll get to keep it for free – potentially saving hundreds of dollars depending on which device you have.
For those unfamiliar with the program, JUMP! On Demand launched about 10 years ago during the "Un-Carrier" era when John Legere was CEO. It let customers walk into a store and leave with a brand new phone without paying anything upfront – not even sales tax. Instead, they paid a monthly lease fee and could swap to a different phone up to three times per year.
T-Mobile even upgraded the perk in 2017 to allow phone swaps as often as every 30 days. Unfortunately, if you're not already in the program, you can't jump in now to take advantage of the free phone offer. T-Mobile stopped accepting new JUMP! On Demand enrollments, so this parting gift only applies to existing customers.
If you're currently on the program and want to take that final upgrade opportunity or need more details, you'll need to contact T-Mobile directly or visit a store before November 30th. After that date, no more upgrades will be available, and on December 1st, the program officially closes and your lease payments end – along with your obligation to return the phone.
